Suwanee Home Inspection Reveals Lack of GFCI

A Suwanee home inspector reported on the lack of exterior GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter). The purpose of the GFCI is to shut off the flow of electricity to the receptacle in the case that there is a change in the electrical flow from hot to neutral. The Suwanee home inspector explained to the client that a GFCI monitors the amount of current flowing from hot to neutral. If there is any imbalance, it trips the circuit. It is able to sense a mismatch as small as 4 or 5 milliamps, and it can react as quickly as one-thirtieth of a second. This will protect people from electrical shock or death in case there is a path from the hot wire to the person who is the path to the ground. A home inspection in Suwanee should always include an inspection of the electrical system, especially the life saving protections that are installed.
